What is an adult learner?

Not sure if you are an adult learner? Let us help! Adult learner, nontraditional student, adult student, and student over traditional age are terms used interchangeably in reference to students who have one or more of the following characteristics:

  • One or more children or other dependents
  • Working part-time or full-time to pay for college tuition and related expenses
  • Stopped out of school for an extended period of time
  • Married, partnered, single, divorced or widowed
  • Military background โ€“ veteran, reservist, active duty, national guard
  • Caring for an elderly parent or relative
  • Transferred from a two-year or four-year institution
  • Someone who is 23 years of age or older

However, we are 100% student fee funded and all are welcome in our space!

ALVS Resources

While we say our physical office and the community within it is our main programming, we also offer so many opportunities, experiences, and resources to our students!

We’re in our new space in Lory Student Center 282! Stop by for: Caffeine (Coffee, tea, and for folks with a sweet tooth – hot chocolate!); Tutoring, Peer Advising, Social and Informational Events, and so much more!

Veteran Education Benefit Office (VEBO)

Student Veterans, if you have questions about your education benefits or how to get started you can visit the registrars page, email gi_bill@colostate.edu or call 970-491-6340. The VEBO office also hosts hours in their remote office in the ALVS during the week! They can be found in LSC 381L.

VITAL (Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership)

The VA VITAL Program offers access to VA mental health care on campus at the CSU student counseling center. We assist with connection to resources within the VA, on campus, or in the community. We can help with understanding VA healthcare benefits, getting enrolled, and generally navigating the VA system.

Women and Gender Advocacy Centerย (WGAC)| Advocates | Every other Monday 2 โ€“ 3 PM (10/2 and beyond)

Advocates are available to provideย confidentialย crisis intervention and emotional support through the Women and Gender Advocacy Center. Advocates in the office are full-time staff members dedicated to working with students who have experienced trauma. They provide information about academic, legal, medical, emotional, and student conduct resources to survivors of sexual assault, sexual harassment, relationship violence, stalking, peeping, and/or who are adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Advocates also offer support to secondary survivors, such as intimate partners, friends, family, and you. Stop by to talk about any questions you have, you are not required to start services or disclose anything about a survivor identity.

Tutoring Request Form

Request a free ALVS tutor by filling out this form. Tutors available for most lower division science and math classes. However, if we donโ€™t currently have a tutor for your particular class, we will work on finding one for you.

Peer Advisor Request Form

ALVS Student Parent Interest Form

Colorado State Universityโ€™s Adult Learner & Veteran Services (ALVS) recognizes the hard work that student parents put into balancing family life, parenthood, and college coursework. While finding that balance is not always the easiest of tasks, the ALVS is a safe space for student parents to access resources and support as they balance parenting while pursuing their degree. These resources are open to students of all ages and backgrounds.ย This form will help ensure that the ALVS and Ram Kidz Village (RKV) are providing supportive resources for you for this upcoming academic year.
